SLOBs

Elbow Stagger Flare SLOB

By Brian Williams on February 7, 2016

A good play if you need a basket with little time left on the shot clock.

Northern Iowa ran this and got a good look for a three-pointer with 1 second left on the shot clock.

It has three progressions. Posted by Lucas Shapiro.

This play was posted in the FastModel Sports Basketball Plays and Drills Library

First look is to 3 curling off the screen 1 sets at the elbow.

basketball-plays-elbow-stagger2

If 3 isn’t open, 1 comes off a staggered screen from 2 and 5.

basketball-plays-elbow-stagger3

If the first 2 options aren’t open, 5 sets a flare screen for 2.

Basketball Plays: Sideline Inbounds

By Brian Williams on November 1, 2015

These two NBA Sideline Inbound plays are featured posts in the FastModel Sports Basketball Plays and Drills Library.

Note: The numbers are to distinguish between the 5 different players on the floor, not to say that you have to put a traditional “5” player (i.e. center or post player), or a traditional “4” player (i.e. power forward) in those spots if you run the play. If you need a 3 point shot, at the end the game, IMO it is better to put 5 players who are dressed for the game that give you the best chance of accomplishing that.

Note #2: The purpose of this post is not to say that you should run this exact play.

But, I hope it does motivate some discussion and thinking among your coaching staff as to how you can possibly incorporate some of the actions in this play to your team’s end of game situations, or as to what you can do to counter teams that switch everything at the end of the game in this situation.

Many of the players have changed teams. The point of the post is to give you ideas on ways that you can put your players in positions to be successful.

OKC End of Game SLOB

This play was contributed by former Florida Graduate Assistant and current Fort Myers High School Boys Assistant Kyle Gilreath.

Billy Donovan drew up this ATO with under 10 seconds remaining as the Oklahoma City Thunder trailed by 3 at Orlando. If you’ve followed Coach Donovan for years, you know he loves screen the screener actions for his best players.

Durant screens 2 (Augustine) to the corner as 1 (Westbrook) screens 5 (Adams) into a pindown for Durant.

Basketball Plays: Warriors SLOB Need 3

By Brian Williams on October 19, 2015

This play to get a three point shot came from the FastModel Sports Basketball Plays and Drills Library.

The play was submitted to FastModel by Andreas Barthel.

The idea of the play is to use it at the end of a game when you need a 3 point basket.

It is a triple decoy play that forces numerous switches.

Warriors SLOB Need 3

warriors1

2 cuts to the ball side corner.

warriors2

4 uses a staggered screen set by 1 and 5.

The design is to force the first switch between X4 and X5.

warriors3

1 then comes off a down screen by 5.
Looking to create a second switch between X1 and X4.

4 turns and screens X5 which prevents x5 from executing a third switch with X4 (Barnes) who is forced to trail 1 (Curry)

3 (Iguodala) passes the ball to 1 (Curry)

warriors4

1 begins to drive the ball away from the screening action to force X5 to help.

5 screens X1.

4 pops out for the 3 point shot.

Basketball Plays: Brad Stevens SLOBs

By Brian Williams on September 17, 2015

Living in Indianapolis, I have always had a lot of respect for Brad Stevens, dating back to the start of his career when he was an Assistant at Butler.

The first 2 Sideline Out of Bounds Plays taken from the Basketball HoopScoop’s Brad Stevens Boston Celtics Playbook (Compiled by John Zall).

You can find out more about the eBook at this link: Brad Stevens’ Boston Celtics Playbook

The third SLOB is a very short video at the bottom of the page from Zak Boisvert (www.pickandpop.net)

Boston Celtics Spread SLOB

You might have to watch the video a couple of times to see the play develop.

It is a simple play, but effective if you have a player who is hard to keep from getting the basketball with a running start.

It is a YouTube video, so you will need to click the play arrow to see it.

End of Game/Qtr Need 3

By Brian Williams on July 20, 2015

These two inbounds plays came from the FastModel Sports Basketball Plays and Drills Library.

The site has thousands of drills and plays that have been submitted by basketball coaches from around the world.

The first play is an under the basket inbounds play, the second is a side out play.

Contributed by Brandon Mullis, Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, NC

This is a last second play that can also be used at the end of quarters in high school.

One of our opponents ran this BLOB to perfection against us a couple seasons ago.

We did not defend the action very well and gave up the open shot in the corner to lose by one point.

BLOB

basketball-plays-eog2

1 comes off the triple stack to receive the inbounds pass at the low wing/corner from 3.

basketball-plays-eog3

1 dribbles toward the top of the key while 2 and 5 move to middle of the lane to set staggered screen 3.

As soon as 3 clears 2, 2 curls around 4’s screen to the corner.

1st Option: 1 passes to 3 for the shot near the top of the key, coming off the double staggered screens from 2 and 5.

2nd Option: 1 reverse pivots and passes to 2 in the corner for the shot, coming off the screen from 4.

Wizzards Curl Hammer SLOB

Submitted to FastModel by Kyle Gilreath,

This play that the Washington Wizards ran at the end of Game 4 in the 2015 Playoffs against the Hawks for Paul Pierce is one of my new favorites. It is very simple yet extremely effective as a misdirection.

basketball-plays-eog1

2 (Beal) curled off a stagger from 3 (Pierce) and 1 (Wall).

After receiving the inbounds pass, 2 dribbled to the baseline as 5 set a hammer screen for 3.
