Basketball Plays Side Out Flash

By Brian Williams on March 1, 2021

I hope it might be something you can add for the end of the season or the post season that your opponents have not seen.

3 Sideline Inbound Plays from Tennessee

By Brian Williams on April 24, 2020

These sideline inbound plays video was edited by Coach Justin Brandt.

The other resources he has to share can be found at CoachJB.Weebly.com or you can follow his Instagram at @CoachJustinBrandt for daily posts.

You will need to be on a network that allows you to access YouTube to view the video.

Click the play arrow to view the video.

There is narration with the video, so please make sure that your sound is on.

I agree, several of the screens could have been executed better. The idea behind the video is not to critique their execution, but rather to get some ideas for some offensive concepts and actions that you might be able to use.

WNBA Sideline Inbound Plays

By Brian Williams on August 22, 2018

Two Sideline Inbounds Plays from the WNBA to use after timeouts, or for an end of game situation.

My hope for you is that you can take actions and movements from these plays to fit into your system and the abilities of your players.

The plays were contributed by Doug Brotherton to the FastModel Sports Basketball Plays and Drills Library.

Doug Brotherton is entering his 15th year of coaching basketball, and his 7th year at the helm of The Village School girls varsity basketball program. He has coached boys high school basketball, girls high school basketball, and started the Men’s Basketball program at Mid-Michigan Community College.

Coach Brotherton is also very involved at all levels of basketball. He is a NBA Regional Advanced Scout for the Chicago Bulls. He is the founder of Dynamic Coaching Tools. Coach Brotherton was elected as the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Large Private School Board Member.

This past year, Doug helped develop the drill book and coaches packets for Jay Bilas Basketball Camps, along with giving a presentation of the benefits of FastDraw. In 2018, Positive Coaches Alliance selected Coach Brotherton as one of the 50 Double-Goal Coach National Award Winners, for his positive impact on his athletes on the court and in life.

Los Angeles Sparks – Winner 2.0

Doug’s comments: The Sparks took the popular “Winner” SLOB set and added a zipper action at the beginning, as well as a down screen at the end. It is a tremendous design, which resulted in an open three late in the game.

4 sets pin down for 1 on zipper cut

2 flare screens 4 to opposite baseline

3 throws skip pass to 4

5 sets screen for 1

1 has a shot OR…

Can hit 4 OR…

5 sets a down screen for 2

3 spaces to corner

Phoenix Mercury – Zipper Pistol Flare SLOB

Doug’s comments: The Mercury ran this ATO to get Diana Taurasi an open three. There are multiple options, as the zipper cut turns into Pistol Action, and ends with a weak side flare screen for the inbounder.

Brad Stevens End of Game Winner SLOB

By Brian Williams on December 7, 2017

This play to run at the end of the game down 3 was contributed by Doug Brotherton to the FastModel Sports Basketball Plays and Drills Library.

This is what Coach Brotherton said about the play:

This SLOB set was used by Princeton in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Down by 3, with under 20 seconds left, this set resulted in a wide open three point shot. I have added an elevator screen to the end of this set, in the case that the first shooter does not have a shot.

I have also posted some video of the play that was edited by Gibson Pyper

Below the video is a second end of game sideline inbound play from Coach Stevens called “Brush Clear.”

“Winner”

Box Formation

3 sets a back screen for 1

5 sets a cross screen for 2

On the catch, 5 re-screens for 2.

1 passes to 2 for the 3-point shot.

5 and 4 set an elevator screen for 3

3 cuts up the middle for a three point shot

Brush Clear

Contributed by Matt Wheeler, Olympia High School, Orlando, Florida.

The Boston Celtics ran this play with the score tied and 36.3 seconds left in game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics wanted to get a quick score within 5 or 6 seconds so they would end up with the last possession of the game. As 2 gets the inbounds pass, 3 & 4 cut to the corners for spacing. 1 sets a brush screen for 2, allowing 2 to drive hard right looking for a layup or a kickout to a shooter.

5 sets a down screen for 2.

3 & 4 exchange and cut to opposite corners.

1 passes to 2.

1 sets a brush screen for 2.

2 drives right for a layup or a kick out to a shooter in the corner.

3 inbounds the ball to 1 and makes an Iverson cut off of 5 and 2.

Michigan State Lob

This is a short seconds lob play.

1 breaks out of the stack to the NBA slot

2 cuts to the ball side corner

4 curls around 4 for possible lob.

Villanova Curl Pin BLOB

3 cuts off a back screen from 1.

4 and 5 set a double staggered screen for 1.

If 1 is not open, he stops and screens with 5 for 4.

You can adjust to have 1 or 4 dive after they screen

Villanova Line SLOB

5 cuts to the ball side block.

2 loops between 4 and 1 to the opposite block.

4 turns and screens for 1.

1 cuts to the ball and receives the inbounds pass from 3.

3 cuts inbounds as soon as the pass is made.

4 receives a rescreen ball screen from 4.

2 spaces to the corner.

Another way to run this would be for 3 to cut in and get a hand back from 5 and then come off of 4s on ball screen.
