This is what Coach Barthel said about the play:

Very effective in attacking a 3-2 zone.

This play creates an open 3 point look in the corner and multiple options to score with.

1 passes to 2

4 flashes to the ball side high post

This forces X4 to shift

5 pops out

2 passes to 5 and cuts to the basket

1 fills the ball side wing

IF X5 closes out on 5, then 2 will be open on the cut to the basket

If not, 5 passes to 1

5 sets a screen on X5

2 cuts to the ball side corner

Either 2 will be open for a shot, or 5 after the screen and slip to the basket

If 1 can’t pass the ball to either 5 or 2, then he passes the basketball to 4

4 passes the ball to 3

X3 is forced to step out and recover

X1 and X2 are forced to shift

4 screens on X1’s inside shoulder

3 attacks X2 with penetration and draws X2’s attention

3 passes to 1

5 sets a screen on X5

1 passes to 2 who still remains in the corner

Box 1 Zone BLOB

By Brian Williams on November 25, 2017

This baseline inbound play to run against a 2-3 zone defense was contributed by Justin Scanson to the FastModel Sports Basketball Plays and Drills Library.

You can also find out more about FastModel Play Diagramming software by clicking this link: FastDraw

This is what Coach Scanson said about the play:

This Zone BLOB starts in an overload on the strong side shifting the defense from the start.

From this overload, players screen the zone and work to take advantage as the defense reacts.

5 seals x5 as 3 cuts to opposite corner.

4 screens for 1 and 1 wheels to the corner.

If x4 chases 3 and 5 seals x5… layup for 5.

If x5 gets position on 5, 4 is open cutting to the ball.

If x4 stays home, 3 is open on weak side.

Safety outlet is 1 in the corner.

1 dribble drags x3 as far as possible and brings ball back to 2 in the corner.

2 has 4 on the block or 5 flashing to high post.

1-4 High Man to Man Plays

By Brian Williams on October 11, 2017

A couple of man to man plays to run out of a 1-4 high alignment.

The plays are from the 1-4 Offense Playbook assembled by Jason Jones.

It is combined with the Best Plays from the 2017 Men’s NCAA Tournament Teams as this week’s featured playbook bundle.

These actions do not have to be run as is. Take these movements and am to them or implement parts of them in what you already run. Or, use them as a place to start your thinking about ways to enhance what you will be running next season.

You probably won’t be able to use the plays “As is” but you might be able to take a few of the actions that make up the play and use them to improve what you already do.

“U”

On post entry–opposite post (5) will down screen for 2

2 must sprint to space and this screen has to be set in deep corner

1 will always go first and 3 second on X hand off action

4 can give to either player – or fake and look for 2 off down screen

From here can go to flex very easily if you choose or

can go into 4 hitting 1 or 2 into a PNR game

Clear

2 will run over action, as he clears hit 5 for quick clear out.

The play does not have to be run for a “5” player. You can put any player i that spot that you feel like would have an advantage in driving their defender from the elbow to the rim.

Not a play that you can go to several times in a game, but if you get the right matuchup it could result in a quick basket when you need on or a foul.

Quick note. It is difficult to get the timing for the play, but obviously, you need to set your own timing so that 2 and 4 are not in the lane for 3 seconds.

You probably won’t be able to use the play “As is” but you might be able to take a few of the actions that make up the play and use them to improve what you already do.
