Set run by the Boston Celtics.

This is a counter out of the Boston Celtics “Swing” series.

Rather than 2 passing to 4 and receiving a back-screen from 5 for a shuffle screen, 2 dribbles at 4 and 4 back-cuts to the basket for a post-up.

After 4 receives the ball on the block, 5 sets a back-screen for 2.

2 cuts to the basket looking for a drop pass from 4 for a layup.

Creative ball screen set run by the Boston Celtics.

Boston used this action to flow into an elbow ball screen for a guard who had a stretch 4 replacing behind the ball screen.

Having the center come off a zipper down screen is a creative design on an already tough action to guard.

1 dribbles to wing

2 sets zipper down screen for 5 and then spaces to corner after setting screen

1 passes to 5 in slot

3 flashes to elbow on 5s catch in the slot

5 passes to 3 on elbow

5 follows bass into ball screen for 3 on the elbow.

3 dribbles off 5s ball screen attacking

5 rolls hard to the rim

4 replaces (or lifts) behind this ball screen

Houston Rockets Half Court Plays

By Brian Williams on May 17, 2017

This post contains two man to man plays from Mike D’Antoni and the Houston Rockets Playbook.

Adjust these sets to fit your players and philosophy and/or take bits and pieces to combine with what you already run.

I realize that the NBA defensive rules are different than high school and college, but I hope you can use these sets as food for thought for improving your system.

The plays are from The Houston Rockets Playbook assembled by Chris Filios.

Stack Double Slide Mix Ball Scren

4 fakes ball screen for 1 and cuts to corner.

Certainly, you could have him/her slip to the rim and then space to the corner.

3 slide screens for 1.

2 pops out to receive a pass from 1;

5 runs a step up screen for 2 and rolls.

Stack Hammer

5 sprints and sets ball screen towards baseline.

2 sets flare screen for 3 to corner.

1 can pass to 3 when he or she gets to the basket if open.

Post Kickout

1 passes to 5 and cuts into the lane, then to the opposite wing.

4 dives through the lane, then to the block.

2 lifts.

5 passes the ball to 2 on the wing.

2 feed 4 in the post.

2 cuts into the lane.

2 cuts off a screen from 5.

4 passes to 5 for an inside out shot.

You can have 3 and 1 interchange.

You could also finish with a staggered screen from 2 and 5 to 1 or 3.

The post is to offer ideas for you to apply to your coaching situation.

The plays are from The Houston Rockets Playbook assembled by Chris Filios.

2 NCAA After Time Out Plays

This post contains two man to man after timeout plays.

The fist play is from Steve Alford during his tenure at UCLA.

The second is from Dr. John Giannini’s time with the LaSalle Explorers.

Adjust these sets to fit your players and philosophy and/or take bits and pieces to combine with what you already run.

The plays are from The Best of Special Teams Playbook assembled by Chris Filios.

Diagrams created with FastDraw

3 passes back to 1.

4 Ducks into the lane to set up a screen for 2.

3 comes off a back screen from 5.

2 comes off a triple staggered screen from 4, 3, and 5.

5 brakes to the elbow and receives the entry pass from 1.

1 cuts around 5 for a fake hand off.

The intent of the post is not that you have to run the plays as is, but for them to get you thinking about things that would work for you.
