Ball Screen Post Dive Shooting Drill

By Brian Williams on September 9, 2019

This shooting drill is provided by Dr. Dish Basketball.

The drill has been utilized at his past stops by TJ Otzelberger of UNLV.

You can take his thoughts and actions and apply them to your system so that you can have:

1) Drills that emulate shots your players get within your offense
2) Shots that come off of cuts and passes that your players make in your offense
3) Multiple players getting shots in the same drill.

Please make sure your sound is on to see the video.

This drill is hosted on YouTube, so you will need to be on a server that allows you to access YouTube to see the drill.

Ed Cooley Defensive Fly Drill

By Brian Williams on August 26, 2019

Previous Providence College Head Coach and currently the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball program, Ed Cooley takes some demonstration players through the first phase of his Defensive Fly Drill.

You can use this as the basis for your own similar drill to work on defensive rotations.

You can decide what the next movements that you allow are. One step, one dribble, all the way up to full freedom to move.

I hope it gives you some food for thought on what you can do to emphasize deflections and teach and practice defensive rotations.

Basketball Drill “Hockey”

By Brian Williams on August 21, 2019

This video of Emmanuel College (Georgia) Head Coach TJ Rosene discussing one of the Game Based Drills that he uses called “Hockey”

The drill is five minutes and a half minutes long and does have sound.

The content is located on the Glazier Coaching Vault.

If interested, you can find out how to access all of the basketball content in the Glazier Vault at this link: Basketball Glazier Vault Access

You will want to set the special “Penalty Box” rules to fit the areas that you emphasize, as well as modify the drill to fit your beliefs.

It does offer a different way to emphasize the fundamentals and skills that you value.

You will need to click on the image of the video to start it.

John Beilein 7 and 11 Shooting Drill

By Brian Williams on August 16, 2019

John Beilein demonstrates a shooting drill he used while he was at Michigan.

Take this and make it your own by using the shots that your players will be shooting in games.

Another way to run the drill would be to have each group of 3 players (the rebounder, the shooter, and the passer) compete against other teams of 3 and have a collective team score for all 3 players’ scores. That would put a little more urgency in the minds of the passers and rebounders.
