Three Step Transition Offense Progression

By Brian Williams on June 27, 2023

Coaches often say that they want to play fast.

But to play fast you need a system and you need a plan for how you are going to teach that system.

In the three clips below you will see a transition offense progression used by Arkansas Women’s Basketball Head Coach Mike Neighbors.

Coach Neighbors is a highly respected coach and is known as one of the best offensive minds when it comes to fast-paced basketball.

He uses the following 3 step progression for his transition offense.

Let’s take a look at how he breaks down each of these progressions.

These clips were taken from Coach Neighbors’ complete instructional course. For more information about that course click the following link: Organizing Your System

Here is a  look at how he breaks down each of these progressions.

Half-Court Hustle Rebounding Drill

By Brian Williams on June 27, 2023

The Half-Court Hustle Rebounding Drill is a terrific drill that teaches players to hustle to rebound out of their playing area.

In  the clip below Jamy Belcher describes the drill.

The drill consists of having a player shoot the basketball from either wing.

All of the other players are in a line at half-court.

The player on the wing will take a shot. The first player in line at half-court sprints in to try to gather the rebound and finish.

The goal is to get to the basketball before it hits the ground and lay it in.

This clip was taken from Coach Jamty Belcher’s complete course. To learn more about that course click the following link: Championship Rebounding

Trapping the Post in the Pack Line Defense

By Brian Williams on June 27, 2023

Coach Jim Boone is one of the best teachers of the Pack Line Defense and in the clip below he discusses the key principles of the Post Trap in the Pack Line Defense.

While the #1 goal of post defense in the Pack Line is keeping the ball out of the post, Coach Boone shares his key principles for trapping when the ball has been entered into the post.

In Coach Boone’s  Pack Line Defense, he likes to trap big to big.

As the trap is happening, Coach Boone teaches for the bigs to be toe-to-toe and have their hands active. They want to prevent a skip pass or a cutting pass.

The rule is to be as physical as they can be without fouling

The clip below was taken from Coach Boone’s incredible course on how to teach the Pack Line Defense. For more information about that course click the following link: Jim Boone Pack Line Certification Course

Dribble Follows Passing Drill

By Brian Williams on March 31, 2023

In the clip below coach Kermit Davis shares a Passing Drill that he calls Dribble Follows

Dribble Follows drill is an amazing drill to use at any time of the year, because it allows us to work on passing and cutting, but you will also have the option to work on post-up game for your guards and wings.

The drill begins with the ball on the wing and another offensive player in the corner. The player with the ball dribbles to the point and the corner man follows and replaces his teammate on the wing.

The player and the top stops , pivots on his inside trailing foot, steps through and passes with his outside hand (left in this video).

After making the pass to the wing the player and the point cuts to the basket.

After receiving the ball on the wing player will sweep and pass to the cutter in the post.

The drill can be used on a dribble from the point to the wing with the opposite wing following the dribble to the point.

It is recommended to have a defender down low with the pad. If you have enough coaches in practice, it is also recommended to add defenders on the entry post-pass.

This clip was taken from a clinic presentation by Coach Davis. For access to the complete presentation click the following link: 5 Great Passing Drills
