Box Pop Seam Inbounder Play

This play is an inbounds play to run against a 2-3 zone for a quick shot.

Houston Women’s Assistant Coach Vonn Read has submitted several plays from his playbook series The Basketball Encyclopedia of Plays to the Coaching Toolbox.

Coach Read has also served as an assistant coach in the WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury, Orlando Miracle, and San Antonio Silver Stars.

He was an advanced scout for the Orlando Magic as well as The Charlotte Sting.

The 5 player will dive and post up X5 in the Zone.

The 3 and 2 players will pop out for the ball.

The 5 player will post up hard to seal X5 in the Zone.

The 1 player will step right into the seam to receive a pass from the 3 player for the quick jump shot.

Basketball Plays 2 Michigan State Zone Sets

Michigan State Zone Set #1

2 cuts to the left corner.

3 pops out to the right wing.

1 passes to 3.

3 passes to 1 and cuts to the basket.

5 sets a downscreen on the middle of the zone.

3 curls the screen.

4 sets a screen on the left bottom of the zone.

2 cuts to the left wing.

1 can pass to 2 or 3 for the shot.

If 1 passes to 2 and 2 isn’t open for the shot,

4 slips to basket.

2 passes to 4 for the shot.

 

 

Michigan State Zone Set #2

3 slides to the right low block.

Basketball Plays Attacking a Down Ball Screen

These 2 ideas for attacking a defense that downs your side ball screens is from the Arizona Basketball Coaching Newsletter.

Attacking a Down Ball Screen

5 screens for 2 who cuts to the free throw line extended.

1 passes to 2 then cuts to the opposite side wing.

3 and 4 fill the deep elbows.

1 fills the wide wing

The basketball is reversed from the left wing to the right wing to #1.

3 spaces to side after making the pass.

5 cuts to set a ball screen for 1.

X1 takes away the drive off the ball screen.

X5 takes away the straight drive to the basket, forcing the ball down.

 

Option 1

O4 cuts to the ballside block for a possible post feed.

 

 

Option 2

These two side out plays can be saved for crunch time or any time you are looking for a quick score off an out of bounds play.

These two samples are from the 256 pages of crunch time plays, under out, half court sets, and transition offense from the Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks Playbooks.

Dallas Mavericks Dive

1 cuts to the top right guard spot.

2 passes to 1.

4 drops to the left low block.

2 sets a cross screen for 4, then breaks to the wing

5 pops up to the right elbow.

4 cuts to the right low block.

1 passes back to 5.

5 passes to 4 on the cut.

Oklahoma City Thunder Crunch Time

Basketball Plays EOG Triangle Under Out

This play is a short seconds or end of game underneath inbounds play to run against man to man defense.

Syracuse Women’s Associate Head Coach Vonn Read has submitted several plays from his playbook series The Basketball Encyclopedia of Plays to the Coaching Toolbox.

Heat Pistol 1 Secondary Break

2 flares to the top of the key.

5 sets a ballscreen on 1.

1 attacks the basket.

Heat Single Thumb Down Secondary Break
