Basketball Plays Florida Ball Screen

This ball screen play diagram is from the Coach Scott Peterman’s Basketball Hoopscoop Florida Gator Playbook

2 cuts to the left wing.

3 cuts over the top of 5 and 4 to the right side.

1 passes to 3 and slides over to the top left guard spot.

4 acts like he will set a ballscreen and then slips to the left low block.

5 sets a ballscreen for 3.

3 attacks the top of the key.

3 passes the ball to 1 and cuts to the right wing.

5 dives to the right low block.

1 passes to 2 and cuts to the left corner.

4 sets a ballscreen for 2.

2 attacks the basket.

5 ducks into the post.

Box Pop Seam Inbounder Play

This play is an inbounds play to run against a 2-3 zone for a quick shot.

Houston Women’s Assistant Coach Vonn Read has submitted several plays from his playbook series The Basketball Encyclopedia of Plays to the Coaching Toolbox.

Coach Read has also served as an assistant coach in the WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury, Orlando Miracle, and San Antonio Silver Stars.

He was an advanced scout for the Orlando Magic as well as The Charlotte Sting.

The 5 player will dive and post up X5 in the Zone.

The 3 and 2 players will pop out for the ball.

The 5 player will post up hard to seal X5 in the Zone.

The 1 player will step right into the seam to receive a pass from the 3 player for the quick jump shot.

Basketball Plays 2 Michigan State Zone Sets

These 2 Michigan State Zone offensive Sets are from Coach Scott Peterman’s Ultimate Zone offense playbook.

I hope they give you some ideas that you can add to your zone attack.

Michigan State Zone Set #1

2 cuts to the left corner.

3 pops out to the right wing.

1 passes to 3.

3 passes to 1 and cuts to the basket.

5 sets a downscreen on the middle of the zone.

3 curls the screen.

4 sets a screen on the left bottom of the zone.

2 cuts to the left wing.

1 can pass to 2 or 3 for the shot.

If 1 passes to 2 and 2 isn’t open for the shot,

4 slips to basket.

2 passes to 4 for the shot.

Michigan State Zone Set #2

1 dribbles to the right wing and passes to 2.

3 slides to the right low block.

4 sets a screen on the middle of the zone.

5 screens the lower left zone member.

2 passes to 1

1 dribbles to the top of the key.

4 and 5 screen for 3.

3 cuts to the left wing.

4 steps up to the right elbow.

1 can pass to 4 or 3.

Basketball Plays Attacking a Down Ball Screen

Few offensive actions put as much pressure on a defense as a well-executed ball screen.

The challenge comes when opponents adjust their coverage and try to take away your primary option.

Having a counter ready allows your offense to stay one step ahead and continue creating quality scoring opportunities.

The actions below demonstrate two effective ways to attack a defense that forces the ball handler away from the screen.

Study the concepts, then consider how you can incorporate these ideas into your own ball screen offense.

Attacking a Down Ball Screen

5 screens for 2 who cuts to the free throw line extended.

1 passes to 2 then cuts to the opposite side wing.

3 and 4 fill the deep elbows.

1 fills the wide wing

The basketball is reversed from the left wing to the right wing to #1.

3 spaces to side after making the pass.

5 cuts to set a ball screen for 1.

X1 takes away the drive off the ball screen.

X5 takes away the straight drive to the basket, forcing the ball down.

Option 1

5 releases and sets a screen on X4.

O4 cuts to the ballside block for a possible post feed.

Option 2

5 releases from on ball screen and screens X2

O2 cuts behind the ball for a 3 point shot.

Dallas Mavericks Dive

5 sets a downscreen for 1.

1 cuts to the top right guard spot.

2 passes to 1.

4 drops to the left low block.

1 dribbles toward the left wing.

2 sets a cross screen for 4, then breaks to the wing

5 pops up to the right elbow.

4 cuts to the right low block.

1 passes back to 5.

5 passes to 4 on the cut.

Oklahoma City Thunder Crunch Time

4 pops out to the top left guard spot.

5 sets a flare screen for 2.

2 cuts to the right wing.

4 passes to 5.

3 sets a backscreen for 1.

1 cuts over the top to the basket.

4 sets a downscreen for 3.

3 curls to the left elbow.

5 passes to 3.

Basketball Plays EOG Triangle Under Out

This play is a short seconds or end of game underneath inbounds play to run against man to man defense.

Syracuse Women’s Associate Head Coach Vonn Read has submitted several plays from his playbook series The Basketball Encyclopedia of Plays to the Coaching Toolbox.

Coach Read has also served as an assistant coach in the WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury, Orlando Miracle, and San Antonio Silver Stars. He was an advanced scout for the Orlando Magic as well as The Charlotte Sting.

The 3 player will come off the stagger double screen set by the 1 player and the 5 player.

The 1 player will peel back to the ball to set a backscreen for the 5 player for the lob.
