Basketball Plays Box 53 Vandy Razor

Today’s play is a way to get the ball to a big at the basket.

Coach Vonn Read has submitted several plays from his playbook series The Basketball Encyclopedia of Plays to the Coaching Toolbox.

Vonn is the Associate Head Coach for the Women’s program at Syracuse.

Coach Read has also served as an assistant coach in the WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury, Orlando Miracle, and San Antonio Silver Stars. He was an advanced scout for the Orlando Magic as well as The Charlotte Sting.

1 dribbles to the wing. 3 curls around 4 and 2 cutting to the corner.

5 will turn and set the fake screen for 4.

At the same time, 2 sets the screen for 5 for the slip layup.

If X5 helps on the screen on 4, 5 should be open.

If X2 helps, 2 should be open popping to the top.

Box Elbow Split High

I have posted several plays from Syracuse Associate Womens’ Head Coach Vonn Read has submitted several plays from his playbook series The Basketball Encyclopedia of Plays to the Coaching Toolbox.

1 passes to 4 at the elbow and takes 2 steps away from the ball.

3 spaces to the corner.

2 curls high to the top and sets a split screen for 1.

1 will come off the split screen and get the handoff pass for the jump shot.

If 1 does not have the jumper, he can drive hard to the basket for the layup!!

Basketball Plays Oklahoma State Man to Man Sets

These two quick hitters are posted on the Fast Model Play of the Day Site.

Click on the link to check out a lot of other great baskeball drills and baskeball plays!

They were contributed by Michael Bowden, Video Director for Maryland women’s basketball.

Both have a couple of ways to score, but the purpose of each play is to get a 3 point shot.

 

 

 
 

Set #1

1 dribbles the basketball to wing.

5 and 3 set screens to get the 2 open

1 hits 5 after 5’s screen for 2.

4 screens the 2 on the curl

4 then screens the 3 to pop to the corner

4 should be able to post and seal deep in paint

5 hits 3 in the corner for a shot or 3 can feed 4 in the post.

 

Set #2

1 dribbles across the court

4 sets a pin down screen for the 3

2 sets a cross screen to bring the 4 to the ball side block

5 moves to the block.

5 and 3 then set a double down screen to bring the shooter to the top of the key.

 

 

Basketball Plays 3-2 Zone Attack

Punch Special

5 and 4 exchange while 3 sprints to stack with 5 on the block

5 screens bottom of the zone then sits on next defender

1 uses screen and looks for 3 or 5

5 sets flat screen on the top of the 3 – 2 then pops t o 3 point line

1 uses the screen forcing the zone to collapse

1 reads options and finds open teammates

Before using the ball screen 3 dribble hands off to 1

3 then continues off screen for 5

Basketball Plays 1-3-1 Zone Attack

10 Rules–Attacking the 1-3-1

  1. Push the basketball (take advantage — don’t let the zone set up)
  2. Take the ball up against the defense
  3. Ball reversal (get the zone to shift)
  4. Get the ball Inside
  5. – Every 3-4 passes. ball must get into the post
    – Inside out pass
    – In and away pass

  6. Attack the gaps
  7. Use skip passes-Use the whole court and make defense turn their head
  8. Get overloads
  9. Use screening offenses
  10. – Inside screening
    – Little on big

  11. Big guys • use short corners & post (spread the offense)
  12. 10. Use mis-direction passes
