Basketball Plays Blind Onball

In this play, as 2 loops off a staggered screen, 4 steps up to set a blind pick and pop on 1’s man.

2 loops off free throw line staggered screen by 5 and 4

3 clears to weak side corner

1 follows 2’s cut on the dribble

5 dives to the rim to seal his man.

1 reverses his dribble

2 flows to the corner and 4 steps up to set middle pick and pop.

Option

If pass is made back to 4 and there is no available shot, he should always swing the ball to 2, and follow to set a 2nd pick and roll.

Basketball Plays Middle Zone Screen

Ball screens in the middle of the floor can be very effective against zone defenses because, like good ball movement and screening action, they can force defenders out of their area of coverage.

I have included some other resources of ways to attack a 2-3 zone defense. below. The diagrams are links to other pages on this site.

In the first diagram, the ball-handler, O3, turns the corner and attacks the lane because X2 does not come over to stop penetration.

X2 stays matched up on O1, and as O2 turns the corner, X5 and X3 step up to stop penetration which opens up O2 on the wing for an uncontested 3 pt. shot.

In this diagram,, as O1 comes off the ball screen, X2 steps over to stop the penetration.

This opens up the pass to O3 for a shot. If X4 is able to stop O3’s shot, then a pass to O2 in the corner creates an open shot.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE ANYTHING TO SEE THE VIDEO SAMPLES This is a very short segment of a DVD from Coach K showing him coaching his 2-1-2 or 2-3 zone attack in practice. The point he makes that I like is that we all need to have some type of misdirection in our zone attack. He makes the point dealing with a misdirection dribble for individuals, but in my opinion, we need to have some misdirection in our passing principles as a team as well when we attack a 2-3 zone.

Basketball Plays Double Triple

This play is run against man to man defenses.

It features a staggered double screen for a shooter, then finishes with a staggered triple screen for a second shooter.

The play starts in a 1-4 high set.

I have also included links to other plays below the play.

#1 hits #5 at the elbow and then uses a backscreen from #4.

#2 cuts across to the opposite block.

#3 jabs to get open

#5 hits #3 as #2 cuts to the low post or short corner–whichever spot he is more effective from.

#3 can feed #2 or can hit #1 who is coming off the staggered double from #4 and #5.

To complete the play, #2, #4, and #5 set a staggered triple screen for #3.

Basketball Plays Blob vs Zone

It is an inbounds play to run against a 2-3 zone.

When the official gives the basketball #1 , #3 goes beyond the arc in the ballside corner.

#4 goes to short corner opposite the basketball

#4 screens in for #2 who cuts to the corner opposite the ball

#5 cuts to the block in front of the ball.

Zone Attack Dribble Chest

Good play against a 2-3 Zone.

1 Passes to the 3 player.

The 2 player is the shooter in the middle.

3 Drives the ball hard to the top of the key to draw X1 and X2 defenders together.

1 flares for the shot on the wing, coming off a Flare screen set by the 4 player!!

The 2 player drags opposite for a shot on the wing. This action forces X3 and X4 to play the shooters on the wings.

After setting the Flare Screen, the 4 player will slip into the middle for the Pass for a Shot or High Low.

When the pass goes to the 4 player, X3 and X4 cannot pinch down quick enough to stop the high low because they are out on the wings playing the shooters!!

If they do recover, the kick out pass to the wing is open for a 3-pointer!!

High Low Action!!

If the ball is passed to the wing, play the Short Corner Game!!
