SETUP

  • Two teams (Black vs. White), three active players per team at a time.
  • Players are positioned in the corner, on the block, and on the elbow.
  • Coach passes to the shooter in the corner to start the possession.

BOX-OUT ASSIGNMENTS

  • Opposite block boxes out the corner shooter.
  • Corner player boxes out the opposite block (the screener).
  • Elbow player boxes out the other elbow.

SCORING

  • Made initial shot = 3 points.
  • Offensive rebound = 1 point.
  • Score off the offensive rebound = 2 or 3 points (whatever is made).
  • Possession ends only on a defensive rebound, which must be outlet clearly without traveling.
  • No ball is ever called out of bounds — players fight for everything live.
  • Defensive side also tracks: a “got one” tally for chasing down a loose ball, and a plus-one against them for surrendering an offensive rebound.

ROTATION

  • After each round, rotate clockwise: one team shoots and rebounds, play dies, then the other team goes, then rotate positions.
  • Continues until every player has shot a three — post players especially enjoy getting three-point reps.
  • Once the full team cycles through, the drill moves up to the wing and repeats the same pattern.
  • Full drill takes about eight minutes to get everyone through.

COACHING POINTS / PURPOSE

  • Builds live, competitive rebounding habits under game-like chaos (no stoppages for out-of-bounds).
  • Reinforces the mentality that rebounding effort determines how much a team has to run and how many extra possessions it earns.
  • Intentionally gets physical/aggressive to instill a “battle” mentality toward every missed shot.
