SUMMARY
USING THE THREE SETS
Double Drag, Elbow 5, and Spain give coaches three separate ways to initiate half-court offense. Each set stresses the defense differently and provides its own scoring possibilities rather than serving as part of one continuous sequence. Having several actions available also allows coaches to choose a set based on personnel, matchups, and how an opponent is defending.
DOUBLE DRAG
Double Drag uses consecutive ball screens to put immediate pressure on the defense and create opportunities for the ball handler. The spacing around the action gives the offense options depending on how defenders handle the screens. The set can create opportunities at the rim, off the roll, or through defensive rotations triggered by the ball-screen action.
ELBOW 5
Elbow 5 is a separate half-court set built around initiating offense through the elbow area. The alignment creates opportunities to use screening, cutting, and player movement to force the defense to make decisions away from the ball. Coaches can use the action to create organized movement while maintaining good offensive spacing.
SPAIN
The Spain set incorporates Spain pick-and-roll concepts to create another challenge for ball-screen coverage. The additional screening action makes it more difficult for defenders to simply concentrate on containing the ball handler and roller. Timing and spacing are important because the offense is attempting to create confusion and force difficult defensive switches or rotation.
